Gulf Breeze Hospital Earns Only Five-Star Rating Among Hospitals in Northwest Florida
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently awarded Gulf Breeze Hospital a five-star rating on its Hospital Compare website. Gulf Breeze Hospital was only one of five hospitals in the state of Florida and the only hospital in Northwest Florida to earn five stars.
Gulf Breeze Hospital’s ratings are based on 11 publicly reported quality measures in the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey, and components include safety of care, patient experience and the effectiveness and timeliness of care, among others.
“The CMS 5-star rating by CMS for Gulf Breeze Hospital is a testament to all of the team members on campus who dedicate themselves to provide a phenomenal experience,” said Beau Pollard, Gulf Breeze Hospital Administrator. “The daily focus of patient safety, high clinical outcomes and an unmatched patient experience is ingrained in the culture of Baptist Health Care and I witness our team’s commitment to excellence daily at Gulf Breeze Hospital. We will continue to make patient safety and experience priorities at Gulf Breeze for those in our community that we serve.”
Hospital Compare reports information on quality measures for over 4,000 hospitals nationwide, including Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Centers and military hospitals. The website provides information for patients and caregivers on how well hospitals deliver care and encourage hospitals to improve the quality of provided care. Users can compare performance across many common conditions.
Star ratings reflect HCAHPS surveys displayed in the Hospital Compare report update that was released on December 21, 2017. Each hospital must have at least 100 completed surveys over a quarterly period and be eligible for public reporting of HCAHPS measures to receive a star rating. The agency released its first star ratings for hospitals in April 2015, and now updates the ratings based on new HCAHPS data on a quarterly basis.
The surveys place the assessment of hospital performance in the hands of the patient. Patients rate their care in key categories such as communication with nurses and responsiveness of physicians and staff. Baptist Health Care uses the results to trend its own performance and compare to different hospitals in the region helping to ensure they continue to provide top-notch, compassionate care to the community.
