Meet Baptist Legend Lisa Davis
Lisa Davis, care navigator at Baptist for 14 years, calls patients all day long, but she credits God for calling her to serve. Lisa was on the phone with a patient performing a care management follow-up. The patient had been readmitted to the hospital and expressed concern that he needed to pay his utility bill that was past due. He was worried about his water being turned off. Lisa reached out to her fellow team members to see if anyone had a contact within the company to grant him an extension. Lisa paid the past-due amount, and team member Beatrice was able to get an extension for the rest of the bill. The patient was grateful but wanted to send Lisa a check for the bill. Lisa told the patient that it was a gift from his Christmas angel. She would not accept his money and told him to pay it forward one day.
On another occasion, Lisa connected with another patient and learned that he was starting chemo and did not have any family in the area. He felt scared and alone. The patient told Lisa he was on a restricted diet and did not have food in the home. Lisa reached out to the Faith Health Network for resources and support. She was able to have the supplies delivered to his home within a couple of hours. Lisa also bought allowable food for his chemo diet and delivered it to his house. While at the patient’s home, Lisa noted the overgrown conditions of the yard. She also learned the patient did not understand resources that were available to him. She was again able to work with Faith Health Network to have his yard mowed and assist him with resources.
Lisa calls this patient weekly just to check- in. He has expressed his appreciation for her kindness. With Lisa’s help, FHN education and resources and their suggested techniques, he has been able to work out his care needs without visiting the emergency room. He credits Lisa as being a true friend who he can call when he needs assistance or guidance. Lisa acts with our Values.
