Meet Your Provider

What led you to choose your focus of medicine?
I have known this was my path in life since I was 13 years old. I do not know how someone decides on a career that young and sticks with it. I just always knew practicing medicine was a part of me. I find it amazing what our bodies do for us every day and interacting with my patients is the cherry on top.

What about your line of work do you find most rewarding and why?
I find educating my patients to be the most rewarding. It is through educating patients on preventions, treatments and alternate options that you can see them start to feel empowered. I think health care options feel overwhelming, so to discuss them with a patient and see them taking an active role in their health is incredible.

What is something about you that only your patients would know?
My patients know I want to hear every concern they have. I try not to set limitations on what is discussed during their appointments for the sake of getting to the next patient. Although I do try to stay on task, health care is holistic. Therefore, if the patient wants to discuss their sore throat or their feelings on the weather, I am there to listen.

How would a patient describe you?
I hope a patient would describe me as professional yet approachable, caring, detail orientated and positive.

What’s your proudest moment as a provider?
I look back on my educational experience as a nurse practitioner, and it is hard to choose one moment. I always feel proud when I can tell a patient is struggling to share information on their mental health, and we get to the point of open dialogue. That is where I feel a great difference is made.

In your opinion, what’s the most important factor in a provider-patient relationship?
Trust.

What can a patient expect when they have you as a nurse practitioner?
The patient can expect me to be on time, not dismissive and thorough.

What do you find most encouraging about the work you do?
As simple as the answer sounds, I just enjoy helping people. When we go to the doctor, sometimes we are scared, sick or just there for a checkup. Whatever the reason, I find purpose in knowing I am needed and helping my patients.

What are your top priorities with every patient you see?
Education and prevention are top priorities. Examples can be cancer screenings, lifestyle changes or treatments for diseases to prevent complications. They all make a difference.

Describe one of the top ways you ensure each patient receives the quality, personal health care he/she deserves.
At the end of every appointment, I always recap what was discussed then say, “Any comments, questions or concerns?” I feel it lets the appointment end on the patient’s terms and ensures they felt listened to during the appointment.

Is there anything more that you would like prospective patients to know about you?
I chose family practice because I love seeing patients of all ages. I want to hear about a patient’s high school graduation, wedding and retirement. Continuation of health care is a benefit to patients, and I enjoy that working relationship.

Do you have any specific medical interests?
Family practice is my heart, but I also have a strong passion for women’s health.
