Caring For Our Community - Then, Now And Always
The mission of Baptist Health Care began humbly at the home of Dr. Sidney Kennedy in 1939. After a young local woman died giving birth, members of the First Baptist Church of Pensacola gathered on the porch of Dr. Kennedy’s home to discuss the tragedy. They agreed that if access to better care were available – a more modern hospital – her death likely would have been avoided.
With the weight of that knowledge and determination to improve quality of life, the group began the journey to bring better care to the area – and so Baptist Health Care was born.
Our region has undergone significant growth and change over the years. And, as an essential and steadfast member of the community, Baptist has evolved with it. We help individuals throughout their journey through our hospitals and medical parks, our renowned Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, inpatient behavioral health and our extensive network of physicians and advanced practice providers.
Our founders envisioned something extraordinary, and their legacy continues to guide us. Our unwavering commitment to service—then, now and always—inspires our team members every day to care for our patients, serve our community and support each other.
We are more than a health care provider; we are part of the fabric of our Northwest Florida community – a trusted partner for improving quality of life in our community, because we are the community. And for that reason, as the needs continue to grow and evolve, so too will we.
To celebrate our milestone 75th anniversary, we will spend the months leading up to our official anniversary date on October 17, 2026, reflecting on our history. To our neighbors, friends, and families: thank you for trusting us for 75 years. Your confidence and support have made this journey possible, and together, we will continue to build a healthier future for generations to come.
