Team Members Share Work in my Shoes Career Shadowing Program Experiences

Work in my Shoes

Work in My Shoes is an annual team member career shadowing program offered at Baptist. We highlight a few of the participants in this year's program.

Kristen's experience:
Kristin Ales shadowed Taylor and Dylan in the emergency department and medical unit at Jay Hospital. Kristin said this of the experience: “Many of the team members at Jay are cross-trained and very versatile.” She also shared that she appreciated seeing how the team functions together and how they feel like a family. Kristin plans to follow up with the talent acquisition team to help in screening and recruiting talent to meet the needs of Jay.

Vikki's experience:
Vikki Jordan followed the registration team at Gulf Breeze Hospital. She shared how eye-opening it was to see just how many different systems the team works in each day. Vikki said she especially enjoyed shadowing Ali  whom she described as a knowledgeable and patient leader. Vikki said that Ali treats everyone like family and noted how much she admired the way Ali supports both her team and the patients they encounter.

Shannon's experience:
Shannon Hayes spent time with Nicole Noland in Baptist Hospital surgical services pre-op, where she gained a better understanding of the behind-the-scenes work involved in preparing patients for surgery. “I did not realize the amount of work that is still required ahead of when patients arrive before a surgery.” Shannon shared how welcoming and helpful the team was, noting that everyone she spoke with was very informative and kind. She appreciated the compassion shown by the staff and said they “appeared glad to be on duty.”

JoEllen's experience:
JoEllen Smith went to the cath lab at Baptist Hospital and followed Westley. She shared that the experience gave her a better understanding of how the inpatient side can support an interventional cardiologist and their work. “It was fantastic,” she said. “The entire team was professional, kind and caring toward patients and each other.” She said her favorite part of this experience was meeting new people.

Melissa's experience:
Melissa Benton shadowed Madison at Primary Care – East Hill. She said she was very impressed with Madison’s dedication to patients. “If Madison was not checking someone in for an appointment, she was helping a patient on the phone. She did not stop for the four hours I was there!” Melissa added that the experience gave her a new appreciation for the work of the practice team members and the important role they play each day. She ended with, “Madison was a shining example of The Baptist Way and culture.”

These are just a few examples of the insightful experiences that team members gained from the work in my shoes career shadowing program across the organization.
