Prostate Cancer

Comprehensive, Personalized Care for Every Stage

At Baptist Health Care, we offer a full spectrum of treatment options for prostate cancer, including systemic therapies that target cancer cells beyond the prostate. These therapies may be recommended before or after surgery, depending on your individual diagnosis and care plan.

Our multidisciplinary team—including urologists, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists—works collaboratively to evaluate your condition and determine the most effective course of treatment. In some cases, genetic or genomic testing may be used to better understand the biology of your cancer and assess any hereditary risk factors. This personalized insight helps guide decisions about which therapies are best suited to your needs.

What is Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer begins when cells in the prostate mutate and multiply faster than normal, forming a mass or tumor. These abnormal cells can invade nearby tissues and, in advanced cases, spread to other parts of the body such as the bones and lymph nodes.

Most prostate cancers are adenocarcinomas, which originate in the gland cells that produce prostate fluid. Other rare types include small cell carcinomas, transitional cell carcinomas, and sarcomas.

Symptoms

Early-stage prostate cancer often causes no symptoms. When symptoms do appear, they may include:

  • Difficulty urinating or weak urine flow
  • Blood in urine or semen
  • Painful ejaculation
  • Bone pain (in advanced stages)
  • Unexplained weight loss or fatigue
